With a sound that is at once transparent and full of warmth, There is an Island are a Dublin folk trio whose music moves through hushed invocations, oceanic lullabies and haunting melodies, conjuring images of sincere introspection alongside post-apocalyptic vistas.
Rich vocals, earthy violin textures, delicate guitar colourings, minimal piano and ethereal soundscapes come together in songs often inspired by the memories and places that linger in our hearts.
Singer Michelle O'Rourke, Benedict Schlepper-Connolly (violin, guitar) and Garrett Sholdice (piano) draw on an eclectic spread of influences, from Nick Cave to Planxty to Mozart. Formed in 2016, the band have become known for intimate, arresting live performances.
Their eponymous debut album, released in November 2026, was recorded over four days in a small, windswept church in West Sligo and chronicles the band's quiet, somewhat elusive, evolution over more than a decade.
